If you have a water heater replacement in mind, you may be wondering how long the installation process takes. Keep reading to learn more about water heater installation so that you know what to expect on installation day.

Before Installation

Before we even begin to install your new water heater, we will talk to you about your needs. We will help you decide what size storage tank you need. If you would rather have a tankless water heater, we can go over your options with you. You can always count on us to give you an honest opinion on whether we think a tankless or a tank water heater will be better for the needs of your particular home and household. Then we will help you choose between gas or electric models, depending on what type of utilities you have available at your home.

Water Heater Installation

Installing a new water heater usually only takes 2 to 3 hours. Keep in mind that if you are switching from a tank water heater to a tankless water heater or vice versa, it could take a little longer. This is because we have to make some changes to accommodate the differences in the systems.

The first hour of installation is dedicated to taking out your current water heater. If you have a tank water heater, that involves draining it and removing all of the parts. After that, it takes around 30 minutes to get your new water heater in place and secured.

Then we spend another hour or so hooking up your new lines and testing to make sure your new water heater works as it should. We will review all of the connections to make sure there are no leaks and watch and listen for signs that something may be wrong. We want to make sure that your water heater is working perfectly before we leave.

We will also take time to talk to you about your water heater settings and the steps that you can take to ensure that your water heater lasts for years to come. Your water heater needs maintenance just like any other appliance in your home, so we can review what it needs and how often you should schedule water heater checkups. Examples include:

  • Flushing your water tank at least once a year to get rid of mineral buildup
  • Checking for leaks because they need immediate attention
  • Checking the water pressure to make sure it’s at the correct level
  • Listening for unusual sounds that can indicate something is wrong
